Aspen has an adoption pending! Good luck, Aspen!

Aspen is a cute, perky, energetic, adorable and completely untrained sweet young thing - lookin' for a place to settle her paws!  She is a pint size dynamo and is just eager to learn everything about anything....she is rarin' to go!  Aspen is still a baby - she has so much to learn - she is a blank slate.

Her enthusiasm for life is so contagious!  She makes you smile just to watch her enjoy her world. Aspen is a great dog for agility training! She flies high with every jump! She is high energy and will need someone who can match her energy. If you want a frisbee partner, a jogging partner, or a dog to join your magic act, check her out!

Aspen is a typical puppy and has typical puppy behaviors....she will need her new family to commit to her for HER lifetime - and they will have to be patient.  It takes time to raise a baby, right?  She will need the same loving structure and patience that you would show to a human baby as she is growing and learning about the world.

A commitment to training with this beautiful pup is a must.  Going through a basic obedience program with Aspen will reinforce the bond and trust that is so necessary to produce a well balanced and well mannered adult dog.

Update 4/15/12:Aspen spent the night with me this weekend so that she could attend a Petco event and was very grateful for the attention.  In what few hours she spent with me she had already decided I was her safe person so at the event she kept turning to me whenever new people would approach, or she would try to follow me if I handed her off to another volunteer.  Aspen can be a little unsure in new situations but there was a lot of change in a very short amount of time so that's to be expected.  Once she settles into her new home this sweet girl is going to be FEARLESS (she didn't give the vacuum cleaner a second thought)!  The first thing you notice when you look into Aspen's eyes is what an incredibly beautiful dog she is.  Then when she moves, you notice her very impressive and effortless gait.  She's extremely underweight right now - by a good 15-20 lbs - so once she puts that weight back on she'll turn heads where ever she goes!  She will stay petite however, and likely won't be more than 55-60 lbs.  Aspen is a friendly, social girl who may take a minute to warm up to you but most GSDs do.  She has lots of 1 yo GSD energy and is looking for an active family that can give her the daily exercise she requires. She went on a 2 1/2 mile jog with me and loved it, though 2 1/2 miles won't likely be enough most days for this active girl.  She would make an excellent running partner or agility dog!  She loves playing with stuffed squeaky toys, or anything squeaky actually, and will run after balls if you throw them for her...it's the giving them back that she still needs to work on! :)  Aspen is HIGHLY treat motivated so this, along with her desire for affection, will make her very easy to train.  She already knows some of her basic commands courtesy of one of our volunteers but she still needs to work on her house manners.  Aspen is a bright, young dog with good energy who thus far in life hasn't been given the direction that she craves and needs, but who with a little work will be an EXCELLENT and GORGEOUS dog!  Aspen has all the traits that makes this breed famous...ask to meet her today

Update: 7/2012
Aspen has been staying with me since Saturday and has been very good.  Im not sure about cats yet since I dont have any but we can test this out if your cat is willing to meet and greet :)  I have introduced Aspen to the little dog from next door that was able to run over here and say hi.  Aspen stayed with me sitting the whole time they met and  continued to stay when neighbor Gary was able to catch up to his dog.   Aspen was very polite when meeting the neighbors for the first time.  Aspen has shown she can stay with me during walks with a short leash and sitting whenever directed.  Aspen will sit waiting for me when told so I can walk through any door first.  This includes going outside and back inside the house.   I can say she loves A/C and shade.   When its hot out she gets her business over fast to return to the indoor A/C.  I think she prefers the early morning walks compared to night time walks.   While I have her inside and still leashed I dont need to hold the leash because she seems to want to be my shadow following me everywhere I allow and will wait sitting at the door to a room where I tell her she is not allowed.  She is also good at laying /sitting next to me while I read, or internet stuff like typing this out.
Aspen really likes tug and when playing catch she returns as fast as she can for the next toss.    At meal time she will sit (when told) away from her dish until I tell her its ok to eat and she sure loves to eat.   Aspen needs more chew toys so  Im going to the store today to find some more toys for her and I think a different water bowl so she drinks a little slower if they have one of those.   Aspen has shown she likes her crate at night but you might at first hear a little bark and a slight whimper if she hears talking but that does not last long and she will sleep through out the night.  (I usually sleep about 6 hours for my night but Im sure she would be good inside for  a longer night)
On Tuesday she was in the crate for 9 hours while I was at work.  I returned to a very polite happy to see someone dog.

Update: 7/13/2012
Today Aspen met a couple of cats and she was fine with them.  She also proved she was ok with teeth cleaning and having her nails done. :)  As every girl should be!
