Ranger is a very distinguished and handsome German Shepherd. He apparently has not been treated well in the past and is initially reserved and cautious, but does warm up quickly. After a few sniffs and maybe a treat or two, he is your friend. He was probably tied outside either on a chain or tight tie out as he has a ring of recent scabs around his neck and is sensitive to pressure around his neck. He has no leash manners and will, of course, need training with his people. Training with the dog will go a long way to establishing that bond between dog and owner that is essential to both a confident, socialized, well behaved and happy dog - and a happy owner. He was non-reactive to the cats at the shelter; however, that may or may not mean that he can abide peacefully with them. Ranger should go to a home that is familiar with German Shepherds and also to a home that will commit to training with him to help him develop the confidence and discipline he will need to become the well-rounded dog we know he is meant to be.
