Big and beautiful Barrett was surrendered to a shelter because his owner could no longer keep him.  While he did live with a family, it is apparent that he is lacking in manners and is not very well trained at all.  He is very energetic and exhibits typical puppylike behavior...jumping up and mouthing.  Barrett definitely needs a committed training program and an experienced owner/handler.   He will require a person who is capable and committed to taking the leadership position with him, and involving him in a training program that will give him the structure and discipline he needs to become a canine good citizen.  This will go a long way to help him become a dog that his people can be proud of and proud to take anywhere.  Barrett gets along with dogs, but  is a definite no with cats - and squirrels :).   He loves them for all the wrong reasons.   He did live with a child and will most likely do well in a home with dog saavy and considerate children 10 and older.  .  Barrett is smart and eager to please.  He is waiting to meet just that right family and will make a  loyal and loving companion.  Please contact us for more details about this special guy.

Update:  6/23  Barrett participated in his first obedience class today.  Up until now he has been busy learning some of the finer social skills needed to be a good boy.

Class went very well for Barrett. He caught on quickly to the new commands and genuinely enjoyed the positive rewards and reinforcement.  Having the side of his face massaged was his favorite reward!!
