Gunther is a young dog with a lot of drive and ability. His mental and physical endurance is extremely high. He will only be placed in a home with someone who has significant breed experience, and is extremely active. Gunny's ideal home would be someone who jogs several miles each day, is an avid daily hiker, or someone looking to get into a physically and mentally stimulating activity such as fly-ball or Dock Dogs, or possible nose work with their dog.

Gunny loves to play fetch. He will play with balls, frisbees, or whatever, and loves a good game of tug. Gunny has a great nose and knows how to distinguish between items. He has some hunt drive which could be developed to be stronger. His foster made the mistake of putting his frisbees on top of the fridge, after knocking just about everything off the front, he came fairly close to getting them. He continues to try to get them.  He knows "touch" and appears to have some "scenting" ability. Gunny is highly athletic, and a fantastic jumper considering his size.

Gunny has fairly solid obedience skills, but he has a tendency to get himself into trouble when he is bored. He has has limited experiences outside of the home so many things are new to him and he needs some guidance about what behavior is expected; keeping calm energy. He has been around other dogs, but when his energy level gets raised, he has a tendency to try to dominate. He is easily redirected, but his handler will need to be attentive to Gunny as he continues to experience life and new situations.  

Gunny was raised with cats, but he barked and chased them. His foster is working on the "leave it" command when it comes to cats. At this point, we are going to advise a home with no cats.
