Here's what Stormy's Foster Mom had to say about him. "My initial impression of Stormy when I picked him up at the shelter was his physical beauty, too thin, but beautiful. My second impression was that even though he was understandably nervous, he had the courage to hop up in my van after only a few moments of greeting. He settled down in the van and was a very calm passenger for the full three hours, underneath that situational anxiety, is a steady and calm dog.
My other initial thought is that is he an athlete. Long legs, beautiful gait, skips taking the steps to our porch and just leaps in one bound to the porch. What I really like about Stormy is that he checks in with me, makes good eye contact, wants to know what is expected of him. He is a 20 month old puppy who has not been taught any manners, but is eager to know his place in the pack. High energy, but not hyper, can settle in his crate. He is keen on the cats, not sure if it is simply curiosity or prey drive. He plays nicely with our Micah, gets very excited when he sees Micah, bouncing and barking. Stormy is very much a puppy.
Stormy will be a great companion for seasoned dog owners, preferably owners with German Shepherd or similar breed experience. Owners who enjoy obedience training and dog sports will find Stormy a diamond in the rough. He needs lots of patience and consistency, he will build confidence and social skills quickly if given the right environment. We have seen him relax in just the 48 hours he has been with us and is starting to lean in for affection. I have the sense that once he gives his heart to someone, they will have the companion of a lifetime.
